It's been 3 months...Today marks the 3 month anniversary of my pyeloplasty surgery.
I really want to show off my (horrible) scar but have yet to take any picture of it. I will soon and post it here. Alas, I also have no pics of my 9 day stay at 'Hotel Elizabeth'. Would have loved to see photos of me stuck in a hospital bed with...lemme count...a total of 4-5 tubes poking into/out of me from everywhere....I mean, it's not everyday you get that kind of an experience, even though it was bad. The only good thing was the 36 days of mc! And I was actually enjoying it for the last week or so.... First few weeks were hell.
I will recount that experience someday when I have the time. It was quite an ordeal. Nothing could have quite prepared me for it but somehow it was strangely managable.
My kidneys are both ok, and pain-wise it is under control. It only gets bad when I stand or sit for too long or don't drink water or when it's cold (very horrible pain when it's cold)....I still can't sleep on the left side, I have to be careful when I get in and out of bed, I can't run and lift heavy weights. Sometimes I forget that there are plenty of things that I can't do just yet but the pain will always remind me of it :( I also can't wear a bikini (hehe..not just yet. The scar looks like shit). I suspect I need about 6 months to a year to be back at 100%. Considering how I could barely walk properly for close to a month after the surgery, my progress now is very good I guess...
I still have a urinary stent inside me at this point, which comes with its own set of problems. I sometimes have pain when I pee, and the pain comes from the kidney so it sucks. I have UTIs every few days although I am learning how to control it, plus I generally feel very tired most of the time. This is what the stent looks like inside:

Nice? If you think it looks long, it is! Not sure how long, I'm guessing it has got to be about 30cm or so? That is the typical length. Gross!
Thankfully, Dr Tan is set to remove the stent in a month's time so I can't wait. Not looking forward to the procedure though, which involves Dr Tan pulling it out of me via my urethra (it is right at the bottom of the picture for those who don't know where it is...It's basically where urine comes out of you. Thank god I'm a girl, cos if I were a guy...guess where the kind doc is gonna pull the stent out from? Ouch!!!)
The procedure will be done via a local anaesthetic so yes I'll be wide awake :( He did ask whether I wanted it done via GA but I said no need la...too leceh and too many side effects only... (Plus it would probably cost me an air ticket to Santorini, which I might wanna visit this year hehe...)
Anyways, he has already seen EVERYTHING when he operated on me right? So nothing new to him haha...
After the damn stent is out then I think I'll be more ok...Then I would just have to focus on moving on and.....staying healthy and.... not spending too much.
I will always remember the year of 2008 as the year when I spent more than I earned for the whole year...Between my hospital stay, new old car and US trip, I could have gotten me a trip to France to buy not one, but a few Birkins! Damn!
Hope this year will be more sane for me....
